Belief Positivity Woo Includer Futuristic How do you see them playing out in your life? My top five strengths show up in my everyday life. I have found Belief guides my steps daily in alignment with my purposes and values in life. I see Positivity at work when I wake up with a smile on my face. It seems I have an internal gauge or meter reading “strictly positive” at all hours of the day. With Woo and Includer working hand in hand, I find that there are no strangers in my life. Every stranger is simply a friend I have yet to meet and make feel welcome in my world. And lastly, Futuristic is a strength evidenced by the words I use in my daily language. I am confident that today is a great day, but I also know there is a greater tomorrow ahead. What's your favorite theme? Futuristic – I find that with futuristic being one of my top five strengths, life seems to be a little more exciting. You can walk in my home or peek into my office desk at work and find that I know where I am going. I long for people to ask me what I am up to in life because I can always see where I will be not many years from now. I have vision boards and even a vision statement for my life that I look at daily. Early in the morning I will rise and take a long walk on the beach thinking about where I will be 2 years, 5 years, 10 years from that point. What will I be doing? What car will I be driving? What cool vacation destination will I be resting at? How much money will I make a year? What will occupy most of my time? All these questions drive me in the present moment to take action and step-by-step make it to the destination of my strength. What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Positivity – Believe it or not, positivity is one of my strengths that can “get in my way” at times. I find that sometimes my positivity, though it be a “positive” strength, can be harmful to others that are dealing with hardships or grievances in their lives. Most every person I know goes through storms in life. I happen to go through most every storm with a smile on my face (Positive strength). My strength can hinder my relationships with new people I meet as well. With positivity, like all strengths, I can gage how strong it flows in my life. By simply toning my strength down at certain times and toning it up at other times, I can have my strength be a strength and not “get in my way.” How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? It is a true blessing to know what my top five strengths are. I am beginning to really own my strengths and take them on in every area of my life, and people notice. Simply knowing my top five has allowed me to walk in a confidence that I feel I never had. Knowledge is power. Knowing my top five strengths has opened my eyes to a whole new way of living, where I feel I am truly devoting my strengths (gifts, talents, and abilities) to a purpose. This is who I am. These strengths are my strengths because I was designed this way. I am genuinely happier, more loving, and more graceful with people. Knowing my strengths has enabled me to see the strengths in others and in turn provide me with a more satisfying life that I get to live today. Thank you strengths for all your help! Those talented with the Focus theme have the ability to stay single-minded and on-point with any project or commitment they devote themselves to. How do they think? “Where am I headed” is a constant question that guides the intentions and motivations of those with Focus. They have the ability to solely concentrate on the task at hand and evaluate the things that may or may not keep them on task. How do they feel? Those with Focus are easily irritated by delays and inconveniences that may distract them from their goals. They don't function as well without having goals to concentrate on and to measure themselves against. How do they behave? The Focus theme allows individuals to have intense concentration on the task at hand. You want someone with high Focus on your team if you are trying to meet a deadline and need to stay on–track. They avoid time consuming distractions and help others on their team to do the same. They help team members set goals and keep their commitment to their goals by leading by example. IDEATION|INDIVIDUALIZATION|INPUT|STRATEGIC| DELIBERATIVE 2. How do you see them playing in your life? Ideation-Usually when listening to others talk, I want to blurt out "I have an idea..." Really creative ideas flow like a faucet and I often need to edit a high volume of them so not to overwhelm others. Individualization-I love spending quality time with small groups of people, asking them really great questions and learning interesting things about them. Weekly, I schedule large doses of time like this. It feeds me- and usually them- and allows me to flourish! Input-I lost a great deal of my memory many years ago [ its back! ] because I was constantly collecting a wide variety of information and resources, just in case I needed it for others. The evernote app has enabled me to not clutter my mind with so much, but to quickly file anything away for instant retrieval when needed. Strategic- When I am working on an interior design project for a client, I love to create an innovative solution to a problem others don't think can be solved. Deliberative- I tend to give alot of thought to bigger decisions. While sometimes WAY too much time spent unnecessarily, I usually make solid choices. Having a really great peer accountability friend who is a strong activator, I spend more time the balcony than basement of deliberative. 3. What's your favorite theme? Ideation absolutely gives me the most oxygen! I thrive not only on being an innovator but to create solutions that are a perfect fit and on target to make a meaningful difference. 4. What's the one theme that "get's in your way?" My "deliberative" strength often has me aiming too long before I fire. For example, I was deliberating about when to get trained as a strengths coach and a close colleague, who is an activator, got me out of the basement of deliberative and encouraged me to hop on the plane within 2 weeks! No regrets. 5. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? Having the affirmation gave me the permission to reimagine how I spend my time and the insight as to where I was believing a lie. I find it very interesting that in the middle of the word "belief" is the word "LIE"! My lie was that I was great at executing. This was being reinforced by many kudos from others, but they weren't seeing the pain or excessive amount of time it was taking and while I was, the kudos were overshadowing the pain. People typically perceive someone with this talent theme as a "softie" or afraid of confrontation. Men we’ve worked with have even called this a “wimpy” strength. We’re here to set the record straight and show the practicality of the Harmony strength. How do they think? People with the Harmony talent see conflict and confrontation as useless and unproductive. They believe a lot of time is wasted by people trying to impose their views on others. How do they feel? Tension and friction are like sandpaper to someone with Harmony. They feel like the way to come to consensus is to discuss practical matters and finding a common ground. They are not afraid of conflict; they just don’t see the point in engaging in it if there is a better way. And they will usually find a better way to bring people together. How do they behave? Individuals high in Harmony can be described as the peacemakers and will work tirelessly to enhance collaboration in the midst of conflict. They are great at being bridge builders between differing points of view. They are not people you will find that are willing to debate but will find consensus between any areas of friction. In a team environment they will be the people that will let opinions be heard but never let it turn into an argument or lead to idea clashing. They will quickly help the team see each other’s side and draw people together. Tips for living your best life as someone with Harmony:

Achiever, Empathy, Learner, Relator, Developer How do you see them playing out in your life? I’ve learned that my Achiever rules my life and provides me with my motivation and drive. Every day starts at ground zero- I rate the success of my day based on the projects or action items I get accomplished. It can be exhausting because I never stop-luckily, I love my job. In making business decisions, I find myself being thoughtful and a bit methodical at times. I have to look at the situation from all angles and make sure it feels right. My Empathy is an intuitive instinct that allows me to feel the emotions of those around me; good or bad. I can often sense an issue or situation with a co-worker before they bring it to my attention. What's your favorite theme? As a Developer, I enjoy people and get excited about seeing the signs of potential growth in others. Nothing pleases me more than someone who learns, grows and ultimately becomes successful. I also get frustrated with individuals that are talented but don’t embrace the opportunity they’re given. I find that I want the success for them more than they want it for themselves. As the saying goes, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink”. What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? As an over Achiever, I have a tendancy to over commit and over schedule. My #1 strength is currently in overdrive most days. As a result, I never manage to get my personal “to do” items completed. I’m now making a weekly list and feel equally accomplished and better balanced. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? I’m focusing on my Relator theme in order to get my Achiever theme in check. I’m making the time to cultivate the close one on one personal relationships which I find so rewarding and fulfilling. Work life balance is something I need to work on weekly for my health and well-being. It’s okay to take a personal break, disconnect from technology, and enjoy some down time. They don’t take things at face value and need to find the why behind the what. How do they think? People with the Analytical strength believe that truth is objective and must be proven or measured. They are always considering the patterns and connections between data and theories and peeling back the onion for what they consider the logical truth. How do they feel? Theories and ideas should be sound and proven legitimate. They feel like credibility is the standard of presenting any idea and will demand that with anyone else presenting their idea. How do they behave? Expect a lot of questions when you share an idea with someone with the Analytical theme. And expect those questions to be sound and challenging. Some may consider them to be rigorous or critical but their motivation is to uncover the most logical truth. Tips to live at your best as a Analytical:

Have you ever been accused of being a bookworm or a nerd? Rest assured, these labels can probably be explained by your Learner theme. Learners have a constant compelling need to acquire and gain knowledge. How do they think? Learners love the process of learning, without the intention of necessarily becoming a subject-matter expert. They are always thinking about the next thing they can learn by looking out for the latest book, the latest website or the latest fad they can educate themselves on. How do they feel? They don’t only love to acquire new knowledge; they feel a innate drive to learn new things. The process of learning makes them feel alive and energized. Highlighting and underlining new information is like medicine to their souls! How do they behave? Remember that learners love the journey of learning, not necessarily the result. Therefore you may find them reading 7 books at once, starting a new dance class or signing up for the latest seminar. They may or may not follow through but it was the process they went through to get there is what drives them. Tips to live at your best as a Learner:

Connectedness-Consistency-Maximizer-Responsibility-Arranger How do you see them playing out in your life? My top 5 truly define me in both business and person. I have always had a connectedness to everyone in my life. I am consistent in my actions. My moto is go big or go home so maximizer fits perfectly. I take responsibility in life for the good and the bad and love to arrange/make a huge impact thus always creating that WOW experience not only for myself but for everyone around me. What's your favorite theme? Maximizer – I have always thrived to be the best of the best. You either give it a 100% or 110% and I have always gone with 110%. I tell people, I don’t care about the 100%, its the 10% extra that makes the difference because very few give it. I have always expected myself and others to give 100% so that is why I don’t really care about it. It should just happen. That little extra 10% is what makes people remember you. It makes people know that when they need something, you will be there. Lets people know that you are able to maximize your time to produce maximum results!!! What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Arranger/Responsibility together. I am such a perfectionist that I find it hard at times to let others help. From planning parties, meetings, training seminars, to simple dinner parties at home, everything has to be perfect. I take so much pride and responsibility in putting my name on things yet reputation can go south quickly if events/training fails to accomplish the WOW factor I am getting better though! How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? Its been nice to truly reflect on the top 5. For years in life and career you kind of have a sense for what you are good at and what areas you are not so sharp. The beauty of knowing your strengths is you can say ok…now this makes sense, so lets keep doing that, and this doesn’t make sense so lets work on this area. Example. I realize after this test that I have a good/bad relation with my #5 on the list---Arranger. Now I know, when it comes time to ask for help, I have to trust others to stand behind my passion and help me make the outcome even greater. Like the old saying, ‘Two heads are better than one”! If you can’t do something right, don’t do it at all. That statement rings true for the life of a Maximizer. To a Maximizer, nothing is worth doing unless it is done with superiority and excellence. How do they think? They are constantly looking for strengths in others and themselves to be able to stimulate excellence. They are not interested in making something into ordinary or average. It’s only worth their effort if they can make something or someone into the extraordinary. How do they feel? Maximizers are fascinated by people’s strengths and the only investment of their time is worth it if they can turn and oyster into a pearl. They love the challenge that comes along with seeing something through unto greatness. In fact, that is the only investment that is worth it. How do they behave? They are discriminative with their time and the people and causes they invest themselves into. If they don’t see something that is on board with their commitment to excellence, they move on. You will not catch a Maximizer talking about weaknesses because to them there is no point. They only want to focus on production that will lead to greatness. Tips to live at your best as a Maximizer:

Responsibility Harmony Achiever Arranger Developer How do you see them playing out in your life? Considering many of these strengths are in the executing category I like to get things done. I find I have to slow down at times to really get intentional and clear on what it is I am striving for. If I don't I end up frustrated for not achieving an outcome I did not even clearly define as something I wanted. What's your favorite theme? Developer. There is nothing more fun and exciting than getting to watch people you coach grow and accomplish their goals. Lives transform when you invest a little time and genuine passion into helping others. Often people are hungry to find out what they are called to do, what they are good at and simply need someone to come along side them speak belief and hope into their vision and help them to take the next step. What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Responsibility. When I say yes to something I mean it. Sometimes I say yes to things I have no ability to get done to the level of excellence required and then the commitment becomes a burden. I can not say enough how important it is to clarify what is something that only you can do and to delegate the rest. Do not waiver from the commitments that are your priorities. Everything else is better meant for someone else who has that strength and a passion for it. This means even if you know you could do it and enjoy doing it if it is not in alignment with what is priority for your time now you should not be doing it. Responsibility as one of my strengths has forced me to pay attention to what I say yes to and be bold enough to say no to the rest. Then stick to it! How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? Being able to know where I excel more clearly has freed me up from trying to be something I am not. I have more energy to sharpen and strengthen what skills and talents I do have. It is amazing how such a small thing can be so powerful. How do you see them playing out in your life? It is amazing to see how the strengths play out in the various facets of my life and it is truly remarkable to identify their function at the basic level of whom I am. I can see how each of them plays an active role in my professional and personal life. I work as a nurse so each of these contribute to my approach when dealing with patients, working with peers, and developing and measuring outcomes to ensure the patient has the best result. Although the strengths are very apparent in my professional life, they are most evident in my personal life. I realized that I tend to analyze whatever situation I face to figure out which decision will lead to the best outcome- this is definitely restorative in action. With includer I feel the constant desire, even drive somewhat, to invite or reach out to people so they do not feel left out. Includer draws me to people and if there is common ground or areas where I can impart information, developer comes into full swing. As a developer, I love to encourage people and help them reach their potential however possible. Positivity and adaptability work hand in hand because no matter what situation I go through, I am able to adjust to it and will continually have a confident outlook that everything will work out just fine, even if the plan and circumstances change 20 times. This comes in handy when I experience a less than desired tragedy. What’s your favorite theme? Positivity is at the core of who I am and is hands down my favorite! You could bring me a negative thing that happened and I can give you so many reasons why it is a good thing for you!! Yes, I may have to stretch for a few but in the end, I will sell the idea and you will walk away feeling somewhat better about the situation. Plus, who doesn’t like a lighthearted, smiley person! What’s the one theme that “gets in your way”? As much as I appreciate includer, I find it gets in my way because I always feel the need to include people to pretty much everything I do. It can be somewhat frustrating for me because I expect people to be as inclusive and when they aren’t its somewhat disappointing because it seems as though cliques are forming. No include likes cliques because we feel like everyone should be friends! How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? These are just some of the things that make up the life of an Achiever. Hard work and getting the job done is the only option for someone with this talent theme. How do they think? Achievers have a one-track mind. When they see a task at hand and have a plan in front of them, they know they can and will get the job done. Even knowing it will require large amounts of time and energy doesn’t deter them. In fact, they welcome it. If there is any downtime in front of them, the first thing that comes to mind is, “What’s next”? How do they feel? Learner, Input, Futuristic, Responsibility, Communication How do you see them playing out in your life? Learner — I love to learn! I enjoy the process of learning and thrive in it! As an entrepreneur and web developer, this theme is extremely advantageous to me in my career. It requires me to maintain a high level of competence in my field. Technologies are constantly changing and I'm always having to adapt quickly and Learner gives me that competitive advantage to do so. Input — This theme is awesome as it goes hand in hand with Learner. This theme allows me to identify areas of specialization and to actively pursue more information about them. I'm a sponge when it comes to input. It also brings be great joy to be able to "wring out" any information I've archived with the people I surround myself with. Communication — in my industry, Communication plays a big role when designing and developing a product or service. Most of us have short attention spans these days so I need to communicate effectively to captivate the consumer. Responsibility — as challenging as Responsibility can be for me, it can be a source of motivation to get things done. It's typical for me to volunteer or add more work to my already overflowing plate. This theme has not only helped me, but has challenged me to be comfortable with saying "No". What's your favorite theme? Futuristic is my favorite theme; it fascinates me! As a dreamer and visionary, I'm always excited by creating my future, setting life goals and/or learning how to build something. The entrepreneurial spirit in me loves working on new start-up ideas or companies. I thrive on building products and services with my forward thinking nature — it's exciting! What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Input. Input can be a blessing and a curse. Input by nature, is inquisitive and collects "things". I'm definitely not a hoarder or a collector of "things" — but more of an information collector. I'm constantly researching and collecting information. Whether it's useful or not, I always seem to be inputting and archiving information into my brain. I LOVE educating people on the topics I'm most passionate about. The challenge I often face with Input is that I often have too many "browser tabs" open in my brain. SQUIRREL! When I'm researching a topic, another topic can be just as fascinating and/or a distraction. Sometimes it can be one of those happy accidents where I discover something pretty rad and other times it can be a total time-suck. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? Understanding my strengths has been really empowering! StrengthsFinder has solidified any previous notions I had of my strengths. It's given me reassurance and confidence as I'm more in-tune with myself. It's allowed me to understand where I excel in and focus on the areas I'm most passionate about. Once I understood where I tapped out at, I began to save quite a bit of time and opportunities opened up. The beauty of knowing your strengths is half the battle. Once you know them; bet on your strengths. You'll be more intentional in those areas. Do the things you LOVE and are passionate about. As for the areas you tap out in, team up with people who can activate or enhance your strengths. Most people expect me to say WOO when I’m asked this question, but my favorite theme is Futuristic. I seriously get stoked when I think about the un-tapped possibilities that await me! I don’t find myself spending too much time reflecting on the past. I feel that you can learn from it, but too much time spent concentrating on history stunts the growth of our future. What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Communication. I am often told that I have “a lot to say.” Duh! It’s how I express myself, but I have to be cautious not to speak over others or during moments where silence would prove more blissful. But when I do have something to say, my words are chosen carefully. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? This response is going to force me to place my communication in check! For far too long I was told to avoid getting involved in concerns that didn’t directly affect me. But I felt an overwhelming desire to use my talents to help others express themselves. I’d run into people daily who’d explain to me that their ideas or visions were simply too difficult for them to express to the public. Hearing that, I’d ask them to explain it to me in their own words, and then allow me to refine their pitch in an effort to maximize its appeal and WOW factor! This ability to help others communicate has given my life a massive boost of meaning, love and joyful fulfillment. Earlier this month, reCreate left sunny San Diego to bring Strengths to the sizzling South! We had the privilege of being the keynote speakers at The Worthing Companies bi-yearly employee retreat in Atlanta Georgia.
The corporate and management staff took part in Round 2 of our Strengths work which began back in December 2013. While the first workshop focused on the individual and their Top 5 Strengths, Round 2 concentrated on the composition of what makes great teams and managers. Our time was spent focusing on strategies of how to more effectively lead their teams based on their Manager's Strengths Lens and discovering their unique contributions as leaders. We went through team building exercises and role-plays designed to equip them to use Strengths to make efficient, well-rounded teams. They left excited to bring back the tools they learned to take their teams from good to great! We ended the night with a groovy disco themed party where the entire staff got decked out in their afros and bellbottoms and showed us how they boogie in the South! Self assessment and personality profiling tests have always been terribly intriguing and stimulating to me because they come with the invaluable reward of a deeper and further understanding and discovery of who you are and how you operate. Achiever is the strength that influences and drives me the most in every area of my life. It's an eternal fire that burns without cease and causes me to always seek to challenge myself; reach new heights and maximize my potential - whether it be in business or my personal life. Becoming a better person all-around and driving myself to be the very best I can be is part of my innate nature. Relator is definitely El Capitan when it comes to my relationships. If there is no substance to the relationship I'm not typically motivated to invest much of myself into it. Please don't misunderstand me, that's not to say I don't care about people who I'm not close with, I do! However, if there is no depth I won't be drawn to have a strong relationship with that individual. My Intellection and Learner strenths are ever-present in my life on a daily basis. "Curiosity killed the cat" never stopped me. I need the rhyme and reason to the riddle... the "who, why, how, what, where, when..." and facts to back up any conclusive or decisive answer. Knowledge is power! It's a huge asset to accompany you in any circumstance and a tool you can use to influence others with or be influenced by. What's your favorite theme? My favorite theme is Relator because it's the only one of my top 5 strengths that is related to people! I have to giggle because I pride myself on having "unprecedented" empathy and ability to connect with people, yet I only have 1 top strength related to people (seriously?!)! That's why I chose it for my favorite - because I love people and I love close relationships. They feed my heart & soul and I've learned that I do in fact need them (need - wow, that is a hard thing to admit). "Deep calls unto deep..." would be my life motto, as I thrive off intimate and devoted relationships. To say that a handful of close friends is far more valuable than a ton of acquaintances would be an understatement. What truly matters in life are the people who are in it. What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Achiever is definitely the angel and devil on my shoulder that can be my best companion and/or worst enemy. A true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of strengths. It's that little voice in my ear that constantly tells me to push myself and become better; to stretch my capacity and increase my abilities - an internal challenger to be the best possible "me". There is a bitter sweet component when you are competing with yourself because the projected "goal" is forever metamorphosing and evolving. That makes it unattainable because it's impossible to reach a "mark" that's infinite in composition. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? It's the most beautiful thing to know who you are and who you were made to be. Discovering who you are is a lifelong journey, but knowing that you were made with a certain innate nature is empowering and allows you to really shine and become who you were made to be! Being true to yourself is an invaluable gift. No two people are made the same and yet every human being desires to know they are valued, worthy and have something to offer. Knowing that you have certain strengths, skills and abilities to offer is not only rewarding internally but also externally when walking out your purpose and calling in life. Want to be featured? For the last 5 weeks, we’ve been focusing on the different sectors and phases of life that Strengths can affect including college students, couples, faith, transition and career. We love to see how virtually anyone in any season of life can be transformed if they know their Strengths and live their lives according to what they innately do best. The results we’ve found in working with people in these phases of life is they gain: · More Direction · Hope for the future · Clearer Purpose · Less Frustration · Better Boundaries · More Confidence When people take StrengthsFinder, discover their Strengths, love what they find out but do nothing with the information, what it becomes is useless information. Information in itself is not transformative. We are transformed by applying the information, having it become a daily conversation and something we live by. What we’ve found in this work is it is never too early or too late to discover our Strengths and use them to have a more fulfilled, purposeful life and better relationships. The journey is not always easy. It takes the willingness to accept who we are and who we are not. It's not about changing who we are. It's about being free to become more of who we are. What's your top 5? Includer Activator Individualization Restorative Woo How do you see them playing out in your life? Now that I have my top five strengths summed up into five foundational words, I can continue to build on them day to day. Recognizing and improving your strengths can have a much more impactful effect on your life, than focusing on your weaknesses, especially if you’re confused about a career path. What's your favorite theme? If I had to pick a favorite theme, I’d have to say it’d be ‘Includer’. Ever since I was a child, I’ve always tried to include people in activities—maybe it’s because I always felt bad for Rudolph when he was excluded in all those games:) What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? After giving my top five a hard look, I honestly can’t say any of them get in my way. After all, they are my top strengths. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? Knowing your top five can drastically change the way you view yourself, or solidify what you already thought about yourself. In my case, I was torn over what career path I wanted to commit myself to. After taking the test and having my strengths further explained, not only did I feel assured and confident, but also, I came to a conclusion on which career path to take. Want to be featured?
